The 6-Step Process to Building the Fiber Neighborhood
ShelbyFiber is rolling out our fiber-to-the-home internet service. That means you and your neighbors can team up to get your neighborhood or communities to the top of our interest list. While we wish we could be able to provide service to every home as soon as they are ready to sign-up for our fiber-optic network, building out a fiber neighborhood and connecting to each location will take time. Here is a look into our 6-step process to building a fiber neighborhood.
1
Interest & Grants
We will determine where to build next based off interest and availability of grant funding. You can click here to complete a simple form to show your interest. We have applied for grant funding for the areas that are considered underserved or unserved within our service territory.
2
Design & Easements
Once we have been awarded grant funding or have determined there is enough interest in an area, we will begin the initial design with our engineering partners. We will also begin work to secure the necessary easements from the affected landowners.
3
Pre-Construction
Construction crews will complete the make-ready in preparation of the fiber construction. This may consist of pole changes, rebuilding lines, and/or tree trimming.
4
Construction
There are multiple components to this process. Construction crews will begin placement of mainline fiber (aerial and underground). Splicing crews will follow the construction crews to terminate the cable and complete testing to certify the mainline cable. If you have submitted your interest in service, we will also begin to place the service drop to your house in preparation of the installation.
5
Schedule
If you have submitted interest in service, we will send you a notification that we’re ready for you to select your package and schedule your installation. If you haven’t submitted your interest, don’t worry you’ll still be able to go online and register for service or call into the office to schedule an installation.
6
Fiber Install
Yay, it is install day! Our technicians will complete the connection to the fiber network and install the necessary equipment to get you connected to your new blazing fast fiber-optic internet.
